Wadowice

Wadowice is a well-known town located 50 km from Krakow. Although it is small, there is probably no person in the whole country who would not hear about this place, and thanks to the Polish Pope – Karol Wojtyła, who just here came to the world and spent his childhood. Thanks to this, the city became famous all over Poland and in the world, and Wadowice itself took care of making the resort attractive both for tourists and pilgrims. Travel time from Krakow to Wadowice is about 1 hour 15 minutes.

Due to the great interest of the Pope by pilgrims and tourists from around the world, a Museum was created presenting items related to Karol Wojtyla. The museum is located in a tenement house where he once lived with his family. At present, the entire tenement house has been wonderfully renovated and modernized, and the heart of the Museum is the 3-room flat of the later Pope.

Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a miraculous image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. It was here that Karol Wojtyła received baptism on June 20, 1920, and later, I Holy Communion, living right next to the temple, since 2006 in front of the basilica there is a statue of John Paul II.

The Market Square was the meeting place of John Paul II with Wadowice during his pilgrimages to his hometown. Young Karol Wojtyla walked the market every day going to a general school, located in Magistracy, and later to a gymnasium. On the square there is a monument of Pope John Paul II.

The worship of this place is a vibrant religious cult. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is the most important pilgrimage center in Poland, next to Częstochowa, located on the famous Papal Route leading from Wadowice to Krakow. The central part of the village is the famous Passion and Marian Sanctuary along with the monastery and Kalwarian paths with historic chapels.

The stony road leads to the courtyard of the medieval stronghold, which hides unusual places – a medieval settlement, an armory, a torture chamber. On the spot you will meet a potter who smokes pots, women weaving materials on a loom, a blacksmith forging a sword and a shoemaker dealing in the production of leather ciżemek.
